The Grandparenting document was produced to help regulators register Reiki practitioners who qualified before national occupational standards were produced.
Reiki Council Grandparenting Guidelines
LEGAL DEFINITION OF “GRAND PARENTING”
“The Term grand father clause (or grand parenting) in its current application refers to a Legislative provision that permits an exemption based upon a pre-existing condition. For example, through the application of grand father clauses, certain prerogatives are extended to those regularly engaged in a particular profession, occupation or business that is regulated by statute or ordinance. Such a clause might allow an individual, who has been in continuous practice in a particular profession for a specific period, to circumvent certain licensing requirements.
TO SIMPLIFY
Grand parenting is a process which allows Reiki Practitioners, who have been working professionally for a number of years, to apply for registration without having to undertake further training, provided they meet certain criteria.
Such things as experience, number of years working and CPD (Continuing Professional Development) may be taken into consideration, and would need to be evidenced.
REIKI GRAND PARENTING
The importance of the role of Grand parenting is recognised, and it is accepted that Reiki practitioners who wish to practise professionally and to register with a body which regulates Reiki, may have qualified in their area of expertise prior to the publication of the Reiki National Occupational Standards (NOS).
