Reiki Styles
Please note that people practising styles with the same name may nevertheless teach very different content.
The following is a list of just some of many Reiki styles that take beginner students. The information provided is not exclusive and is meant to be as accurate, informative and helpful as possible.
EASTERN REIKI
Eastern Reiki is a generic, modern term indicating lineages of Reiki that do not include Chujiro Hayashi.
GENDAI REIKI HO
Gendai Reiki Ho is a more recent Reiki style – a system founded by Hiroshi Doi in 1993.
JIKIDEN REIKI
Jikiden Reiki was founded by Tadao Yamaguchi. It is a style of Reiki with the lineage through Mikao Usui, Chujiro Hayashi and Chiyoko Yamaguchi. Jikiden means a secret art transmitted, or handed down, directly from one’s teacher. Click here for Jikiden Reiki history.
KOMYO REIKI
Komyo Reiki is a style of Reiki developed by Hyakuten Inamoto.
RAKU KEI REIKI
Raku Kei style of Reiki was developed by Iris Ishikuro/Arthur Robertson. Many practitioners of Reiki have this style as part of their lineage through William Rand.
RASA REIKI AND SEICHEM
With its foundations in Tera-Mai Reiki, Reiki and Seichem combines Reiki with Seichem, incorporating additional elements. Click here for Reiki and Seichem history.
REIDO REIKI
Reido Reiki – Spiritual Way Reiki; founded by Fuminori Aoki. Fuminori Aoki learnt Western Reiki from Mieko Mitsui (Barbara Weber Ray lineage). Aoki sensei was also inspired and influenced by people in the direct lineage of Mikao Usui sensei. Reido Reiki is a blend a blend of traditional Japanese Reiki and Western Reiki. It emphasises meditation and ‘living a Reiki way of life’.
REIKI PLUS
Reiki Plus is a style of Reiki founded by David Jarrell. Lineages come through Hayashi and Takata followed by Samdahl/McCullough/Furumoto, Jarrell. This style teaches Usui Shiki Ryoho with additional metaphysical elements
TERA-MAI REIKI
Tera-Mai was founded by Kathleen Milner a Usui Reiki Master who combined Reiki with Seichem introduced by Patrick Ziegler. Style include breathing techniques plus Violet Fire.
THE RADIANCE TECHNIQUE
The Radiance Technique is style of Reiki with the lineage coming through Chujiro Hayashi, Hawayo Takata and Barbara Weber Ray.
TIBETAN REIKI
Tibetan Reiki is generic term. Mostly includes elements from Raku Kei Reiki/Usui Tibetan Reiki. Lineages generally will include Takata/Ishikuro/Robertson. May also be used to mean Wei Chi Reiki.
USUI SHIKI RYOHO
Usui Shiki Ryoho in the Spiritual Lineage Usui, Hayashi, Takata, Furumoto, Reindl, is a Reiki style with a specific form defined by Nine Elements and Four Aspects. This style of Reiki follows the teaching of Hawayo Takara and was defined by her grand-daughter Phyllis Furumoto and other Masters initiated by Takata. If any of the Nine Elements are different from these defined, it is seen as a different system. The Nine Elements are Spiritual Lineage, Oral Tradition. The term Usui Shiki Ryoho is also used for other Reiki styles, but they do not include the Nine Elements in their original form and are therefore regarded as different styles.
One example of this is Usui Shiki Ryoho as taught by William Rand.

HAYASHI REIKI KENKYUKAI
The Hayashi Reiki Kenkyukai is the name of the institute founded by Hayashi – certificates issued by the institute state ‘Shin Shin Kaizen Usui Reiki Tyoho’ (Usui Reiki treatment method for the improvement of body and mind).
USUI REIKI RYOHO GAKKAI
Society for Usui spiritual healing method. Lineages that come through the Gakkai (Society) in Japan coming through Ushida, Taketomi, Watanabe etc. Usui Reiki/Traditional Usui Reiki generic term used by teachers to indicate that they may not align themselves to any one system. They may teach elements from a number of different Reiki styles. However, it may be equally true that teachers from specific styles named below may also do this too.
